An intelligent electricity meter, also called a smart meter, is an electronic device that accurately measures energy consumption in homes or businesses and transmits the data digitally. These devices enable detailed and timely recording of electricity consumption and thus support efficient energy management. Unlike conventional electricity meters, smart meters can send data at short intervals, which helps energy suppliers and consumers to better understand and control energy consumption. They also offer the ability to monitor energy consumption in real time, which can contribute to more conscious usage and ultimately energy savings.

The WIFI power reader is your central device for monitoring a single smart meter. However, if you want to read multiple smart meters, you can use the TTL power reader as an extension. Up to three TTL power readers can be connected to the WIFI power reader to monitor additional meters cost-effectively. For hobbyists, the TTL power reader can also be connected independently to a development board (note: soldering work required). So you have the choice: the WIFI power reader alone monitors a smart meter and can be installed via plug-and-play, with the TTL extension you can read multiple meters.

1. Establish connection: Connect the power reader WIFI with a micro USB cable. Plug the other end of the cable into an adapter and connect it to a power outlet.
2. Installation: Place the electricity reader in the designated place on the smart meter. Make sure that the cable is pointing downwards and the logo is horizontal.
3. Establish connection: Connect your mobile phone, laptop or tablet to the access point of the power reader (SSID: Tasmota) and perform the Tasmota installation.
4. Data analysis: After installation, you can analyze the energy consumption data.

For users of the Stromleser WIFI, the pre-installed Tasmota software enables easy integration with platforms such as Home Assistant, allowing for versatile use and customization.

By installing the electricity reader, you can precisely monitor and analyze your energy consumption, which helps you to identify and adjust inefficient consumption patterns. This often leads to a significant reduction in your electricity costs, as you can identify devices that consume energy unnecessarily and adjust your usage to cheaper tariff times. In the long term, the electricity reader will therefore help to increase your energy efficiency and optimize energy consumption.
